  一、 平行结构的概述:

  · 概念:两个或两个以上的词、短语、分句通过连词或其他词组连接构成的句子

  例:He went to the supermarket, bought some daily necessity and had a nice cup of coffee.

  · 引起平行结构的标志词:

  1. 并列连词:

  and, or, but, yet

  * “and” 可以三者平行

  e.g. He went downtown, bought some books and visited his daughter.

  2. 并列词组:

  as well as, both…and…, not only…but also…, not…but…, either… or…, neither… nor…,

  rather…than…, from…to…

  3. 动词词组

  prefer… to, compare… to/with

  4. 标点符号;

  1. 平行标志词搭配错误

  2. 平行结构不平行

  平行的结构中平行的成分必须语法功能一致,结构一致。

  1) 名词或代词平行

  · Finally Mr. Zhou lost his wife and his life.

  2) 动词平行:

  · She never smokes or drinks.

  · He was arrested and put into the jail

  3)修饰成分平行(形容词、副词或介词短语平行):

  · She was an intelligent and ambitious woman.

  · Jacob speaks slowly and clearly.

  · Mrs. Liu watched her son walk across the street and into the school.

  4) 分句平行:

  · She is a strange girl, yet you cannot help liking her.

  · I don’t want to do it, nor do I want you to do it.

  5) 非谓语平行:

  · 现在分词与现在分词平行

  We love eating hamburgers and swimming under big sunshine.

  · 过去分词与过去分词平行

  Checked and amended, the book is to be published.

  · 不定式与不定式平行

  To drive the car carefully is more difficult than to do homework without making a single mistake

  注:

  1.能够平行的成分,其语法性质应一致,功能一致,而不是过多纠结相同语法成分不同的语法表达。

  例: OG-P561-13

  The labor union is negotiating (A) a contract with the hospital that (B) will satisfy (C) the demands of the workers and be acceptable to (D) all levels of management. No error (E)

  分析:C/D 虽然一个是单个动词,一个是以be动词引导的形容词,但是两者归根结底都是动词。所以许多学生选D,就错了。

  2.学生在平行结构中往往会犯粗心的错位,特别实在IS中那些长得很接近的选项。

  · 例: The influence of Roman architecture is perhaps even more evident in the United States than for either Europe or Asia.(A) for either Europe or Asia(B) by either Europe or Asia(C) with either Europe or Asia(D) in either Europe or Asia (E) in either Europe or in Asia

  分析:D与E的两个选项接近,E中在Asia前面多了一个“in”,而这一个添加就导致了 “either..or…” 这一结构的不平行,所以做平行结构的提一定要牢牢把握“语法功能一致”这个总则,然后仔细判断选项。

  三、 考试时如何判断平行结构的出现。

  · 在IE中,看划线部分的前后是否出现平行标志词, 然后依据未划线的平行成分的语法功能来判断。

  例: The botanical garden program familiarizes children with (A) names of different flowers, teaches them (B) the conventions of naming plants, and they have (C) the opportunity to (D) learn skills used by gardeners. No error (E)
